Walt, where did you come from?
I was raised until I was 18 in a little town in middle Georgia called Cochran. I enjoyed a very happy childhood in that small rural town. I received an excellent education in the Bleckley County School System. I especially enjoyed high school where I played football, ran track, competed in 4-H demonstrations and competed on the debate team.

Were you raised on a farm?
The answer to that question is YES. My father was the local County Extension Agent and he decided it was high time he practiced what he had been preaching all those years. So when I was in the fourth grade we moved out to a 183 acre farm. I grew up fast living on the farm. I was hauling hay, plowing fields, feeding hogs, and OH YES... PULLING WEEDS in a very short time. The lessons I learned on the farm are invaluable to me now, even though at the time I didn't always enjoy it.

Where did you go to college?
I started out my college career at Middle Georgia College in Cochran, but my first quarter there my father got promoted. That meant selling the farm and moving to Tifton, GA. So I decided to move with my parents and attend Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College that happened to be located in Tifton. I completed my two years there with an Associates degree in Agriculture. While there I had the opportunity of gaining experience in research by working at the Coastal Plains Experiment Station. After I finished up there I went to the University of Georgia and earned a B.S. in Crop Science. I am presently working on my M.S. in Agronomy.

What are you working on now?
I am conducting research in the area of Site Specific Weed Management. I am specifically working with John Deere's WeedSeeker ^tm system.
